Trac import

Asked by Philipp Kern

Is it possible to get bug reports from a Trac instance imported into Malone? I understand that this would be a manual action, but is this possible without having a contract with Canonical?

What sort of import are you after? Are you looking at migrating a project to Launchpad permanently, or as a mirror?

We are working on support for bidirectional mirroring of bugs, but that work is not yet complete.

If you want to do a one-off migration to Launchpad, we can help. I don't think we've done a Trac migration before, so I don't have a ready-made solution for you.

That said, if you are willing to do some work converting your bug database to the interchange format our bug importer uses, then we should be able to get the import done fairly easily. If you'd like to pursue this, I can send you some details on the format we need the data in.

I know this is pretty old and am not sure if this is the right place to respond to this - anybody still doing this? I'd like to import a project from a trac repo (one off as you say) into lp:
What is the exchange format that launchpad uses?
Thanks,
Kehan

Hi Kehan,

It's perfectly possible for us to do an import for you. There is a tool out there for doing imports from Trac to Launchpad (I'm trying to track it down at the moment for another user, in fact).

If you file another question detailing the specifics of the project whose bugs you'd like to import into Launchpad we can get the process moving.

Thanks for the response Graham - I'll have to OK this with management
first - I just didn't want to go down that lane if it wasn't possible /
easy.
Cheers,
Kehan

I would like to migrate my Trac tickets to launchpad bugtracker.

I already have a Trac plugin for bug synchronization installed.
The easiest way would be some pushbutton "Import all active Trac tickets to Launchpad" somewhere...

Unfortunately that doesn't exist. Also, we can't (yet) import an entire bug database from a Trac with the Launchpad plugin installed.

The best thing for you to do at this point is open a separate question at http://answers.launchpad.net/malone and we'll start the bug import process.
