How to build distribution independent package in Launchpad?

Asked by Izidor Matušov

I am "building" and uploading packages of GTG which is a python project. When I build a package locally, I get distribution independent package (_all.deb). When I "build" it remotely in launchpad, it gets a distribution label. Afterwards I have to copy packages for all other Ubuntu distributions. UI is not designed for that workflow and it results of wasting 5 minutes just by clicking.

Is there any way to build a distribution independent package? The "building" is just wrapping python source code, nothing more. Is there any way how to automize the process of copying a package for other distributions?

At present this is not possible to build a source for multiple series. Perhaps if you were to investigate a recipe --you can build a recipe from a bzr branch into a PPA for multiple series automatically.
