No, sorry, we don't provide such feature, at least yet...

If you really need it, please file a bug at https://bugs.launchpad.net/rosetta asking for it.

The problem with that feature is that some .pot file would become obsolete before you are even able to translate all them. Anyway, file the bug and we will try to schedule it at some point, but cannot promise any concrete date.

Greetings Carlos,

I need them to search for the english strings only (the msgid's), so that I can find out what template file to translate in Launchpad when I bump into non-translated strings on the *ubuntu screen.

Is it technically impossible, or very difficult, once and for all to extract Gutsy's 1378 templates into an archive of .pot files, and put that archive up for download?
You already have extracted all the .po files and put themn up for download here:
<https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/gutsy/+language-packs>

You could put the .pot archive up for download on the same page.

It would have to be done only once, and then all translators would be able to download a searchable msgid archive.

Best regards

Johnny

I'm sorry but maintaining such export just as a workaround for searching makes no sense.

We are working on adding searching for English strings as a first step to solve searching which would be more or less what you want to do. It's scheduled for current milestone, so it should happen really soon.

Unfortunately we won't be able to implement search this month. A Web search is probably your best option for now.
