Request for MICE project group

Asked by chrisrogers1234

I would like to make a project group for software related to MICE - the International Muon Ionisation Cooling Experiment.

The Muon Ionisation Cooling Experiment (MICE) is an experiment designed to demonstrate ionisation cooling of muons by passing them through liquid Hydrogen absorbers and RF cavities while contained in a very intense magnetic field.

MICE has a complete software set including tools for Monte Carlo simulation of the experiment, data acquisition, data transfer, detector reconstruction, accelerator physics analysis, configuration management and slow controls.

wiki: micewww.pp.rl.ac.uk
webpage: http://mice.iit.edu/

At the moment we host our
* reconstruction and monte carlo code on a launchpad repository at (launchpad.net/maus).
* accelerator physics analysis code on sourceforge (http://sourceforge.net/projects/xboa/).
* configuration management code on launchpad (https://launchpad.net/mcdb/)
* generic analysis scripts on launchpad (https://launchpad.net/mice-analyses)
* some interfaces to another monte carlo code on launchpad (https://launchpad.net/miceg4bl)
* Slow controls and monitoring is managed in a locally-hosted bzr repository
* Data transfer software is managed in a locally-hosted bzr repository

At the moment it's quite hard to really track down what all the different software projects are that are related to MICE. It would be great to really make the thing a bit more streamlined. So we hoped to host everything on launchpad in bzr.

I would like the name of the project group to be
MICE Software

I would like the launchpad URL to be
https://launchpad.net/mice
(please if you can delete the existing mice project)

I would like the team that owns the project to be
mice-maintainers

I would like a one line summary like:
The MICE software project group contains software related to the Muon Ionisation Cooling Experiment.

I would like to have a description like:
The Muon Ionisation Cooling Experiment (MICE) is an experiment designed to demonstrate ionisation cooling of muons by passing them through liquid Hydrogen absorbers and RF cavities while contained in a very intense magnetic field.

MICE has a complete software set including tools for Monte Carlo simulation of the experiment, data acquisition, data transfer, detector reconstruction, accelerator physics analysis, configuration management and slow controls.

Unfortunately, I already made a project about 30 minutes ago called mice (the project group thing is pretty well hidden!) But maybe it's possible to delete that project and make it a project group instead.

Thanks,
Chris Rogers

https://launchpad.net/mice is now a project group - the old project is called mice-removed and is disabled.

If you need to link existing projects to project groups it is done in the "Part of:" control in the project's +edit form.

Enjoy!
