How do I get rid of the completed configuration progress bar?

Asked by Mikael Mortensen

Hi

Thanks for providing a great service. I have a project hosted here https://launchpad.net/cbcpdesys. I have done all the configuration I can think of and the configuration progress bar says 100% registration complete. However, the configuration bar does not go away. How do I get rid of it?

Best regards

Mikael

I'm afraid you can't! I just went through the code and what happens when you complete setup is that the configuration section under it appears folded-up by default. But otherwise, it keeps appearing as before.

If you feel it's annoying enough, consider filing a bug. There may be some discussion about whether the configuration shortcuts there should be completely hidden or made less conspicuous, and what the end result should look like. Chances are the team won't have much time to work on it. But the change looks like it could be a simple one in lib/lp/registry/templates/pillar-involvement-portlet.pt

Thanks for helping out.

I think this is annoying enough as I've spent hours trying to get rid of
it. Chances are other people have done that as well so I think they should
fix it if they can. Do you know why the configuration bar only seem to
linger on my site? I don't see it on other projects.

I can only guess but I think the reasoning may have been that, if people once configure their project through the links under the progress bar, it'd be confusing to remove those links all of a sudden.

That said, I agree that whatever we show there could be a lot less distracting.

I just realized that the progress bar is missing from the site when I use a
different browser than my regular firefox. Perhaps it is a bug then and I
should file a report?

Are you logged in as the same user on the other browser? It should only appear for users authorised to actually do any configuring.

I don't think I'm logged into any browser, but there are some launchpad packages installed for firefox and I have a launchpad- id. However, the bar also appears on my ipad, where I'm sure that I'm not logged in. The bar is missing on my ubuntu/google chrome and ubuntu/opera.

Hi Mikael. We don't include the html for the configuration bar if you don't have permission to change it. I just verified it myself by looking at the source. If you can send us a screen shot or some other clues as to what is going on we could investigate it.

Best,

Gary

Mikael, the screenshot was discarded. Could you make it available on the web somewhere, or send it to me directly (<email address hidden>)?

Thank you,

Gary

Mikael contacted me privately and said that he believes he was logged in after all. That concern is resolved.

I considered filing a bug for the initial issue (a completed progress bar is unnecessary and annoying) but decided not to, thinking that, if this is addressed, it would probably be part of a bigger rethink of the project page. That said, Mikael or anyone else, please feel free to file a bug about this. It will almost certainly be marked "low" importance, but it would at least record the idea.

Best,

Gary
