[Launchpad Feedback #8793]why suspended ~yangguo10 ?

Asked by yangguo

I click "Yes, sign me in" button in page "https://login.launchpad.net/5HpF6RwB0dKCP6BD/+decide". And I get the message "This account has been suspended".
Could you make my account available?

The account was suspended for excessive usage of the webservice API which appeared to be spidering all the user accounts in Launchpad, which was causing a site-wide slow-down.

Can you explain why you needed to scan all of the people on Launchpad please?

I'm doing some data analysis about relationship between the bugs and users. So I need get the user's information. Do you have a better and faster way to get the user's information?
Thanks.

Hello Gary. So, if I use the webservice API to get the user's information, I'll be suspended. Is that right? Is lower frequency of executing the script OK?
Thanks.

Hi yangguo. We do not have a sufficient and supported way to do what you want at this time.

If you choose a very tight throttling--a much lower frequency, perhaps 1/100 the raw speed or even slower--we might not notice the effect on our servers. However, it is a dangerous game, which can affect all of our users.

Can you help with this problem?
