Why do architecture-independent packages insist on being built on i386?

Asked by Thijs van Dijk

Whenever I submit new packages to my PPA, they are queued for hours (sometimes up to 14 hours!) before they can be built.
Even though most of my code is written in Python, these packages are always added to the i386 queue, which is the longest by far.

Wouldn't it be much more efficient for everyone to have architecture-independent packages be built on whichever platform has the smallest wait time?
For instance, all ARM builders are currently idling.

Hi

This is a design limitation of the code we use. There is a bug about making arch-all build on anything, see bug 217427.

Can you help with this problem?
