Possible that I have two different accounts

Asked by TJ Rosene

I think it's possible that I have two different Launchpad accounts (first one created long ago for shippit). Is it possible for someone to check, and if this is indeed the case, can I have data merged?
It's weird, sometimes I seem to be logged into one account with just the name TJ, and at other times, I am logged in as TJ Rosene (also, the data from one seems to be missing from the other, etc). However, I use the same email address and nickname to log in for one/the other, so there's something wonky going on.
I would love to get this resolved.
Cheers,
TJ

So far we have turned up nothing interesting. What we generally think of as a user's basic metadata is split into "account" and "person" objects, and each has its own metadata. IIRC a shipit account uses only one of these, for instance.

In your case, it looks like the account object and the person object are correctly matched, but they have different display names set. One is “TJ” and the other “TJ Rosene”. That's why sometimes you see the one and sometimes the other.

Try following the "Change details" link on your personal page in Launchpad: can you change your display name there so that the two names match? I expect you'll see “TJ Rosene”; try changing it to “TJ”. Does that solve the problem? If not, what problems remain?

Thanks for the feedback and help. I've changed my "name" to "TJ Rosene" in details, and left nickname teejay17. I'll keep an eye on it.
Your explanation makes sense. However, the one thing that leads me to think there still may be two accounts is in my "activities" https://launchpad.net/~teejay17/+karma screen.
I made a purchase on the 21st of October at the Canonical store, and it was showing up last night in "activities" in that other "TJ" account. I had a whole bunch of activity very recently listed there, including a question asked on Ask Ubuntu posted yesterday. I changed my password (the origins of how I discovered something was amiss) and now my most recent activity is October 4th.

We haven't found any other account for you; certainly there can't be two with the exact same identifying name (teejay17). Might there be another email address involved?

By the way, the Canonical store, Launchpad, and the login system are essentially three separate systems. Launchpad and the store both use the login system, but do not talk to each other. I don't have any personal experience with the store, but Launchpad will have no knowledge of any activity that might be recorded for you there.

Thanks. I've only ever used one email address.
I just logged into Ask Ubuntu again, and it says only "TJ," so it must be because the separate sites don't "talk" with one another that the user data appears different.

Actually, I think I figured out the reason for my confusion: on the Ubuntu Single Sign on site, I'm "TJ" and on Launchpad I'm "TJ Rosene." Depending on which site I sign into first for the day is how my name gets displayed across the board.

Can you help with this problem?
