Plural forms for Meadow Mari and Hill Mari kanguages

Asked by Vasli Slavik

Meadow Mari and Hill Mari both have only 1 plural form when it is used with numbers.

0 words = 0 мут
1 word = 1 мут
2 words = 2 мут

When the number is not specified explicitly (when the number is implied) there are 2 forms:
мут (0 or 1 word implied)
мут-влак (more than 1 word implied)

For translation purposes I suppose we should write that this two languages have only one plural form.

One more request. Could somebody rename this two languages from "Mari, Meadow" to "Meadow Mari" and from "Mari, Hill" to "Hill Mari". I think it would be more readable. For example, look here at the languages section:
https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-l10n-mhr

It seems like it was specified 4 languages while in fact this is only 2 languages.

And the last request. Mari language with code chm could be deleted now, because it is a macro language. Nobody speaks this macro languages. You can speak Meadow Mari or Hill Mari, but not the macro language.

Thanks,
Vasli Slavik

I've updated the plural forms for Meadow Mari and Hill Mari: https://translations.launchpad.net/+languages/mhr and https://translations.launchpad.net/+languages/mrj

Should we do the same for https://translations.launchpad.net/+languages/chm ?

As for renaming them, there's the benefit of having them sorted together in long lists of languages, and we can also achieve that with Mari (Meadow) and Mari (Hill). I've renamed them as you requested for improved readability, but if want them to be named as mentioned above, don't hesitate to ask.

Also, reading your team page, it seems we should instead hide the Mari language, so nobody starts translations there.

Yes, Mari language with code chm should be deleted, because nobody
should translate to macro language.

Данило Шеган,

Yes, thanks for proposing, I agree with you, Mari (Meadow) and Mari (Hill) would be much better. Could you please rename languages again to Mari (Meadow) and Mari (Hill) instead of Meadow Mari and Hill Mari?

Thanks a lot,
Vasli Slavik

I've renamed the languages, and made plain Mari (chm) a non-visible language. This is our normal policy for macro language codes.

There appear to be no translations to plain Mari, so we have no worries about historical data.
