How to allow 3.0 quilt source builds in Hardy?

Asked by Robert Hardy

I seem to be running into a brickwall with Launchpad's preconceptions of what is possible with the Ubuntu Hardy Heron series build environment.

I want to backport some of my Lucid packages for use on Hardy Heron.

It seems whatever I do Launchpad insists that Hardy Heron can't support 3.0 (quilt) source format.

For example when I try to copy diffdel from lucid on Webcon SRP Lucid into Webcon SRP Hardy I get this:

"The following source cannot be copied:
diffdel 1.40-0ubuntu2 in lucid (Source format '3.0 (quilt)' not supported by target series hardy.)"

I'm obviously requesting a rebuild. That should be possible as Webcon SRP Hardy includes all the packages to support Source format 3.0 on Hardy. It fails. It even fails when add additional repository support which backports all sorts of other things.

Short of repackaging all my packages to not use 3.0 (quilt) how can I work around what seems to be a bug in Launchpad?

Rob

This is not a bug in Launchpad, it's a limitation of Hardy because the Debian toolchain package versions in Hardy don't support quilt. Launchpad is just being nice to you and warning you earlier rather than letting your build run and fail.

I appreciate that you're including all the dependencies in your own PPA but LP cannot know that, it just knows that Hardy doesn't support quilt. You will have to convert the package format I'm afraid.

Can you help with this problem?
