Questionable/Deceptive Teams that should be removed

Asked by Scott Kitterman

[18:08:33] <ScottK> https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu.2012 seems like an unreasonably deceptive team name.
[18:08:46] <ScottK> Is there a policy about such things?
[18:11:01] <ScottK> https://launchpad.net/~india.launchpad.team too.
[18:12:44] <lifeless> https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-linugz
[18:12:56] <persia> I don't believe there is such a policy.
[18:13:06] <lifeless> there isn't a firm policy
[18:13:11] <lifeless> however we do sort this sort of thing out
[18:13:29] <lifeless> please make a question on answers.launchpad.net/launchpad and the CHR can do it
[18:13:39] <persia> CHR?
[18:13:45] <lifeless> community help rotation
[18:15:34] <ScottK> OK.

ubuntu is not a blacklisted name, so any user or team may use 'ubuntu' its name. There is no official team that owns and manages this kind of name in Launchpad.

We view deception as intent to deceive and we ban users for that.

https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-linugz describes itself as Ubuntu which it most certainly is not. I noticed it when it was listed as "Ubuntu Developer" trying to join a team I'm an administrator for. This is at best inaccurate.
https://launchpad.net/~india.launchpad.team is "The Launchpad Team"

I don't know if this is intentionally deceptive or not, but certainly could be a basis for confusion.

Leaving these as is is seems wrong.

I don't know who should make this decision, so I'm going to escalate this to the person who makes the decision about who makes the decision.

Apart from the existing blacklisting of names, we try as much as possible not to interfere with user provided name from an administrative point of view.

In the case of Ubuntu, it's best to defer to the Community Council who has authority to make a decision in cases like this. I would suggest that you contact the user personally (using the Contact his user feature or emailing them directly), explain the possible confusion caused and politely ask that they change the title of the team / users to include 'Tamil Nadu' or 'Indian' in the name (since that's what it looks like it is). If they have a problem with that, I'd go for the Community Council, since they signed the Ubuntu CoC.

We will happily execute on any decisions made by the Community Council or other Ubuntu governing bodies.

Can you help with this problem?
