Mails get not delivered to team mailing list
All mails send to <email address hidden> are not delivered.
For system generated mails the mailing list works as expected. I am the team owner and mailing list administrator, thus launchpad has my email address confirmed. I also tried to send a mail form a another account (googlemail) that, according to the manuals, should appear as to be moderated. It does'nt get delivered either.
To get the mailing list working is urgent for the management of my team. Please help!
Thanks in advance,
Ralf

Email from Team members are automatically delivered to team list subscribers. Launchpad discards all email from email address that do not belong to active Launchpad users. Emails from active Launchpad users are moderated.
You have only one registered email address listed on your profile page. That is the only address you can send from. Maybe you have another profile. You can verify if Lp know about an email address by searching for matching people at https:/

Yes, Lp knows about the address I am sending from. When looking up "<email address hidden>" it shows my account.
As the team owner I consider myself to be list subscriber as well. Indeed, Lp provides me with the "unsubscribe" button for the list in question. In this case, any message sent from "<email address hidden>" should also be delivered to that account. Is this correct?

Yes, messages should arrive without moderation to that address.

But they don't.
Is there anything in the listserver logs indicating if mails from this address got through at all? Is it possible that they have been filtered out due to invalid information in the mail header?

I have checked that mail is being delivered promptly to subscribers to other lists. I sent a test message to your list. I expect it to go to the list subscribers because my messages have been approved before (when a message is approved from the moderation queue, Lp remembers that the user is trusted). It may appear in the moderation queue. Can you confirm you received the message. I will check that the message arrives in the archive.

Your test message has been delivered to my account directly without any need for moderation. LP says:"There are no mailing list messages requiring your review."
Here is the content of the message:
FROM= <email address hidden>; im Auftrag von; Curtis Hovey [<email address hidden>]
TO= <email address hidden>
SUBJECT= [Goobi-release] test message (please ignore)
BODY=
This is a test message to verify list moderation and delivery.

I think the list is operating correctly. I am certain your emails are not arriving since mine is in the archive and yours is not. In most cases like this, there is a filter on the users end blocking or altering the email so that it does not match Lp's rules. It is hard to identify secondary processes that filter or alter emails. I am not sure what to advise. Maybe send an email from another mail client, or register another email address to Lp and send from it.

I've created a dummy googlemail account and posted from there: It worked.
Maybe there is something wrong with the way our Exchange server delivers mail but the server's logfile reported no trouble. Furthermore, I doubt that I am the only one using Outlook and Exchange with LP. However, I am suspicious on "microsofty" mail headers. It would be great to have a look on LPs filter log if there is one.

I do not have access to log. The logs only report message ids, so we could not see the header. I have not heard that exchange servers have a problem, but they certainly can rewrite headers. Send an email directly to my canonical address. I would like to see for myself.

Hi,
here is a "direct" mail. I assume answering to <email address hidden> does the job.
I spoke to our admin and he told me about a Debian/Postfix finally delivering all outgoing mail that it receives from the Exchange server. Maybe there is some evidence...

Ralf Claußnitzer

Messages sent to a question create new messages. Your text part is recreated with Launchpad's own headers.
Your second message was interesting. I was not expecting it to be encoded in base64, but since the type is text/plain I epect it will be accepted for delivery or moderation.
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8"

You may want to try sending the email as printed quotable.

Unfortunately, there is no way for me to customizing the mail encoding. I wonder about the content type, as Outlook is sending HTML mail by default. Those headers may be unusual but they still contain valid MIME options, so the list server should not fail on that.
I've just made another try using a plain text mail. It has not been delivery yet.
Thanks for your patience...

Mailman has no issue with html-only email, but Launchpad will not moderate it. Lp only accepts plain text. Since I received text/plain I think the content-type is ideal.

We managed to figure out why LP is rejecting my mail. Shortcut: my name contains special characters. LP is not able to identify my email address form the mail header.
Here is a detailed explanation:
In failure cases my name "Ralf Claußnitzer" is encoded in the From field like this:
(given it's sent using ISO)
From: =?iso-8859-
(given it's sent using UTF-8)
From: =?utf-8?
If the special character "ß" is removed from the mail servers dictionary, the From-Field looks more like expected and LP delivers that mail:
(using UTF-8 but without special character)
From: "Claussnitzer, Ralf" <email address hidden>
Sending messages with HTML body is not a problem for LP.
As LP decides whether to moderate or block a message based on the From field, it looks like LP is not able to identify the address from those screwed up headers.
However, RFC5335 on Internationalized Email Headers states on Page 5 (http://
You may file this as a bug.

I reported bug 724318 in Mailman about this issue. I see they recently fixed a bug similar to this. The fix might be available by updating the Mailman 3.0 (which is experimental at the moment).
Can you help with this problem?
Provide an answer of your own, or ask Ralf Claussnitzer for more information if necessary.
