Cannot remove leading spaces from translations

I have an english text that begins with a space.

The translation does not require the leading space.

Attempts to delete it interactively fail. The form accepts the edit, but ignores it.

For example, the message " but the details are unknown" needs to be translated to ", ale szczegóły są nieznane" (without a leading space), but we are unable to do this. See:

FYI, we have also attempted to remove the leading space using a .PO download/upload, but the behaviour is the same.
