Ability to search translations site-wide

Asked by Matt Maguire

Is it possible to search all translation packages available in Launchpad for a word or group of words?

This would be useful for a couple of reasons:
a) one wishes to find a previously translated phrase that requires correction, but has forgotten in which package it lies
b) one wishes to check how a particular term or expression has been translated in other projects, as a source of ideas

There is already a search tool that allows search within a specific package, but it is not straightforward to search a number of packages.

Ideally, one would be able to specify a regular expression as a search key, and include other useful criteria such as a selection of which packages are to be searched, perhaps restrict the search to those translations done by a specific translator, etc..

In case such a function already exists, would you please direct us to where we can find it?

In case such a function is not currently available, can you advise what process we should follow to submit enhancement requests for Launchpad functionality?

For your information, a similar request was submitted in German language by one of the other members of the ubuntu translation team, you can find a link to it here:

Kind regards,
Matt Maguire.

I think this is an interesting feature, so I've created a bug for it. Bugs tend to appear quicker on the developer's radar screen ;)

Can you help with this problem?
