Answerd question not displayed on account page

Asked by Sam_

Open this page.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu

On top it (still) says:
<Ubuntu has unanswered questions in the following languages: 1 in German (Germany). Can you help?>

Opened the link and answered the question. Tag is German (Germany).
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/brasero/+question/140456

The answered question doesn't appear on my account page, so I'm not able to monitor it.
https://answers.launchpad.net/~and-sam

This one (also in German) is displayed on my account page. Tag is 'German'.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/140940

I've verified my language settings, German is marked and there is no choice to also mark 'German (Germany)', which is only listed on the right hand side.
I didn't edit the tag German (Germany) in the question and change it to 'German' to let you verify the situation, but I assume when I'd edit the tag it'll occur in my account page.

I'd expected:
a) When I use the filter German (de), it incl. all varieties of German.
## Not sure of the sense of 'German' and 'German (Germany)' anyway.
b) The answered question doesn't appear anymore on top of https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu
c) The answered question is listed in my account page in order to monitor.

Thanks.

The default answers page for a user shows answers you commented on, subscribed to, and asked. I see you commented on the question from your page https://answers.launchpad.net/~and-sam/+commentedquestions .

Thanks Curtis.
Is this true:
When I comment a question, it remains the status it was, either answered, needs information, open, solved.

All above options are marked and usually all status options are displayed.
But this one not.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/brasero/+question/140456

It is only displayed as you suggested when I click in the right menu 'Commented', which is understood as filter.
But as it remains open it should be displayed in the list since it meets the option 'open'.

It's the first time I experience this behaviour, other commented questions appear in my listing, e.g. this one.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sudo/+question/138749

Therefore I think it has something to do with the tag 'German (Germany)'.
So may I remove this tag and change to 'German' only in order to proof my theory?

Changed tag to 'German (de)' and now it appears on my 'answers' list.
Obviously an inconsistency between which languages a user can choose on his account page and which tag is actually displayed when there is a variable of the same language.

I think you are correct. Maybe we should report a bug about this. Since a users can change their preferred languages, but they cannot change the history of the languages they have worked with, questions can be filtered of listing on the user page. It is not obvious the questions are missing, nor is it clear how to locate them.

I think we may want to *never* filter by language on a user page, because it could hide most or all of the questions you are involved with. I cannot see any of your German questions since I do not speak the language. The language filters were intended make the listings of project questions understandable. User/team questions do not need filtering.

Curtis,
thanks for the time reviewing the issue.
Not sure if other users would like the *never* filter, I could imagine that some may complain about it because they'd like to view only their preferred languages.

Also not sure if it happens with other languages, maybe the issue is only with German variables.
As mentioned I actually don't understand the logic of having more than one variable of 'German'. I'll post a screenshot in bug report how my preferences look like.

Until now I haven't missed any of the questions I've worked on. Whenever I respond to a question, which isn't in German or English, it still displays in my list, e.g. Chinese.
