Duplicate bug found - but I don't have access to it

The bug I just reported (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/700564) has been made a duplicate of a bug I don't have access to because it is marked private.
This isn't very user friendly.. perhaps the bug duplicate system should consider if a bug is private or not? I found other bugs marked as invalid duplicate before reporting this in the first place, but could not access the private bug.

I've linked this question to an existing bug report - bug 434733. I suspect that that bug isn't a perfect fit for what you're saying, but since it discusses the UI around marking public bugs as dupes of a private bug it seems a good place to start.
