I'm having trouble importing my existing .po/.pot files.

Asked by RJ Skerry-Ryan

Hello,

I'm trying to get the Mixxx project setup to use Launchpad translations. We are a Qt project so we have to use Qt translations. One of our team-members already did the translations for German.

I've setup what I think is a valid .pot/.po template for Launchpad here:http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~mixxxdevelopers/mixxx/trunk/files/head:/mixxx/res/translations/mixxx/

The import queue picked up all of those. It created a template for mixxx.pot:
https://translations.launchpad.net/mixxx/trunk/+pots/mixxx

I crated the de.pot from that folder using lconvert:
lconvert res/translations/mixxx_de.ts res/translations/mixxx/de.po

The file de.po has translations for every phrase. However, if you look at the Mixxx template, it did not pick up any of the existing translations in de.po.

If you look at our import queue, it says for de.po "No import target selected yet.".

How do I get the existing translations for de.po to show up in the 'mixxx' template page?
Also, only German is showing up in the template, while we have blank French and Italian .po's in the template folder as well. A bunch of languages we do not have .po's for are showing up in our template page: Yiddish, Hawaiian, etc.

I figured out how to set my preferred languages so the only issue I'm having is that my .po's in the template folder are not being imported.

Thank you,

That's very weird. It usually happens only when the paths are different. The process of "approving" translation files runs separately and can sometimes take a few hours (usually because there are a lot of files in the entire queue that it needs to try to smartly figure out where they belong).

Not sure what's going on here. I've tried checking the path for the template and it indeed seems to match the translation paths. I am neither seeing any problems with our approver process, so I don't know what's going on.

I've manually approved the translations now, but please re-open the question if you see this problem again in the future (or open a new one).

Hi Данило Шеган,

Thanks for your help. This time a contributor has uploaded an updated .po file, and the import queue lists his upload as "Needs Review". It's an update against a pre-existing .po in our tree. I do not seem to have permissions to approve his upload. How is this supposed to work? Should I have these permissions, or does "Needs Review" indicate an error in the import process?

Thanks very much,
RJ Ryan

Automatic approval is not instanteous. It sometimes takes up to a few hours for the file to be approved (and then usually another few minutes for it to be imported, but that can take up to an hour as well). Since nobody approved anything manually, and there was an attempted import for both it.po and fr.po, I'd say it worked. So, please wait a few hours before reporting a problem.

Can you help with this problem?
