Why do Launchpad notify me of my own comments in the watched reports?

Asked by Pavlo Verba

I understand that it notifies me of all the changes, but I probably remember what I wrote a comment about.

Quite nonsensical in my opinion.

So, is there a way I could avoid receiving notification about my own comments?

Hi Paul,

There's no way to turn off sending of comments from yourself.

It's very difficult to make Launchpad do the right thing for everybody
because everyone wants something different. Many people like receiving
a copy of their comment so that they can see the conversation in their
email software without gaps. Instead of complicating Launchpad with
myriad options, we try to make it simple to understand and
unsurprising.

However, if it bothers you a lot, there is a new email header (not yet
documented, but which I will ensure is document shortly) that
Launchpad adds to outgoing bug mail and which you could use to filter
out messages from yourself.

It's called X-Launchpad-Bug-Modifier, and it takes the form "Display
Name (user-name)". For me it would be "Gavin Panella (allenap)", and
for you it would be "Paul Somebody (paul.somebody)".

There are many other headers baked in to messages from Launchpad Bugs,
expressly to allow people like yourself to accurately filter their bug
mail. They are documented here:

  https://help.launchpad.net/Bugs/Subscriptions#Bug%20mail%20headers

I hope that helps.

Gavin.
