Irritating OpenID behaviour

Asked by Sam_

firefox 3.6.10+build1+nob
Referer and else allowed.

Three subjects.
#1
Login works only from account page (overview).
When trying to login from e.g. answers page
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu
then next page has a button [Continue], press the button, next page
https://login.launchpad.net/+openid
shows text message:
This is the Launchpad login service, built on OpenID. The service enables you to use your Launchpad account to log into OpenID-enabled sites around the Internet.
This page is meant to be called from an OpenID-enabled site and therefore has no user-facing functions.

That's it, no way to go back to answers.
You need to reload the page from bookmarks.

#2
When logged in via account page and opening a bug report e.g.
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/648047

No automatic login.
So click above on Login/Register, next page has a button [Continue], press the button, next page
https://login.launchpad.net/+openid
shows text message:
Logged in as Sam - right hand sight button [Log Out]
This is the Launchpad login service, built on OpenID. The service enables you to use your Launchpad account to log into OpenID-enabled sites around the Internet.
This page is meant to be called from an OpenID-enabled site and therefore has no user-facing functions

No way to go back to bug report.
Reloading from bookmarks doesn't help.

Exception.
I have in my search engines 'Launchpad Ubuntu-Bugs'.
Search for bug number 64807, et voilà the page opens and I'm already logged in.

## btw. login from any page was possible before LP changed/updated the code.

#3
When logged in via account page, log out on the page and login again.
Next page
https://login.launchpad.net/
shows account data and
'Sites you last authenticated to'
the 'answers' page is never listed (nor the one from my account page)
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu

But e.g. these are listed
https://launchpad.net/
http://help.ubuntu.com/community
https://edge.launchpad.net/

No what, how do get back to account page overview?

So, I load again my account page from bookmarks.
I'm not logged in automatically.
Click on login to get back to account page finally brings you back.

We need more help in duplicating the problem. I've only tried your first two examples.

On Maverick, I am using 3.6.10+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu3 (firefox) according to the software center. That sounds like what you describe.

Here are comments on what you wrote. I'm using the second example, but my comments for the first one are very similar.

> When logged in via account page

So, I'm guessing you did this?

1) go to https://login.launchpad.net/
2) put in email address and password and click continue

Now you see "Logged in as <your name>"

> and opening a bug report e.g.

> No automatic login.

(As designed, if you started with logging in via login.launchpad.net directly, as above)

> So click above on Login/Register, next page has a button [Continue],

I *do not* see a Continue button.

I see this:

""" Log Out
Sign in to Launchpad's edge environment

If you proceed, the following information will be available to Launchpad's edge environment:

    * Full name: Gary Poster
    * Email address: <email address hidden>

Yes, sign me in or cancel.
"""

From this point forward, everything continues to work fine for me--I click "Yes, sign me in," and I'm redirected back to Launchpad as I expect, and as you want.

The same is true for me in the first example, except I have to sign in.

Do you have any other ideas on what we can do to duplicate your issue?

Thank you

Gary

Gary, thanks for the reply and trying to reproduce the issue.
I created a bug report in order to upload screenshots, which I wouldn't like to submit out in the wild. I hope this is ok with you. Anyway, if required we can proceed here and I just upload screenshots to bug report for a better description.

As you can see I can't proceed from the last 'OpenID-server' page and don't have a chance to go back to bug report. Only if I search for it as described in #2 it will open and I'll be logged in already.

Gary,
I've just closed the bug as invalid.
I've deactivated noscript in add-ons and experienced no trouble with any sign on procedure.
May I ask if you've got any tip on this issue with noscript, thanks. In the meantime I'll test some change of settings.

Gee, so simple, activated js for answers and edge. That's it.
Apologize for bothering you with such silliness.
