Percentage of translaction done on a task

Asked by DannyDei

Hello Ubuntero.
I have just joined the team some 3/4 days ago, so please grant me for being a beginner.

I found difficult to locate a really necessary work to be done in translation : when I select purple acages where I suppose there should be a lot to do I find then a lot of revision and tasks opened since ages.

For instance, I've got in :

https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/dapper/+lang/it

the task ABOUTKUBUNTU is 100% newly translated, has got even no responsible.

https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/dapper/+source/kubuntu-docs/+pots/aboutkubuntu/it/+translate

when I get it to translate I found that it is up since at least ONE YEAR and some line has got even 7 revision.

another one has got 52.88% untranslated :
https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/dapper/+source/alsa-utils/+pots/alsa-utils/it/+translate?start=190

I get in it and filter the UNTRANSLATED lines I an see that are all translated with up to 7 suggestions of which is just a matter of taking a decision.

Is that normal way to proceed or it is just for these few tasks ?
Is it maybe because of Italian August holiday time or what .... I find difficult to spend my time in launchpad feeling that I am productive.

This and a couple of more situation are frustrating for me.
It might be that I am a beginners and this is the itinerary that it is planned for us to do but even if it was this, I wonder how many "beginners" give-up within days ... have you got any stats about this ?

I feel that the STATS should be better and quicker updated.
I feel that in launchpad the tasks should be presented on a priority or aging order instead of an alphabetic one.

I feel that the whole team should value and look after beginners more than they do, particularly avoiding some bully and sided behavior which are only good to exclude the new coming member

I would appreciate some help on this matters.

Hi:

if you have a look at:
https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/dapper/+source/alsa-utils/+pots/alsa-utils/it/+translate?batch=10&show=untranslated
you will see that even if there are 7 suggestions, none of them is actually for the same package "Template "alsa-utils" in Ubuntu Dapper package "alsa-utils"", they can come from a diferent distribution or a different package, that way you can see what other translators have done, and work on that. We stand on the shoulders of others to reach further.
as you can see bellow purple color means "Newly translated in Launchpad", so its already translated, you should look for red color: "Untranslated"
and the templates are arranged according to: "Templates that are considered more important for translation are listed first."
hope that helps you

We'll also be further improving how you can track status of the translations: https://blueprints.launchpad.net/rosetta/+spec/translation-status-for-reviewer
