Delete the redundant es_PR and es_ES templates for ubuntu-docs-about-ubuntu

Asked by David Planella

Forwarded from bug 555813:

This is a recurrent problem. The same was fixed for Jaunty one year ago (see bug 348855). Now on Lucid the problem reappears:

According to

  https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/+source/ubuntu-docs/+pots/ubuntu-docs-about-ubuntu

there're templates created for Spanish (Spain) and Spanish (Puerto Rico), in addition to the generic Spanish.

Please, anyone should remove these "es_ES" and "es_PR" locales from the ubuntu-docs-about-ubuntu template. They are buggy and unnecessary, since the only locale for Spanish language must be "es" (without the country part).

The existence of the es_ES and es_PR locales is only a source for troubles.

Thanks in advance,

Ricardo Perez
Ubuntu Spanish Translators Team Coordinator

Are we perhaps getting old source packages with es_ES and es_PR PO files rebuilt (in any of the Ubuntu series, eg. Jaunty or even Hardy)

Not that I know of in those series. As far as I know, the docs team has
only been working on an update for Lucid recently, but Matthew should be
able to confirm.

These are probably old translations that have come back to haunt us through message sharing. We'll have to stamp them out at the root if we want to get rid of them—but on the bright side, that should be a little easier now in that at least they're not duplicated between series.

A remove-translations run would do this. I'll see if I can get it arranged.

We've done some careful scripting and (because we Do Not Want to screw up when deleting messages!). I'm now requesting the first part of the cleanup to be run against the production database: deleting the unwanted translation messages. After that, the translation files will be empty and we should be able to delete those as well.

The translation messages have been deleted. Running into some complications deleting the POFiles, but hope to have that done today and then we'll be done at last.

LPS page still lists the query as "failed". Should it be cleaned up?
