Can closed source software reside on Launchpad.net?

Asked by dwelch91 on 2007-08-27

re: hplip project
We are going to be needing to host some proprietary plugins into our FOSS driver...
The overall project is FOSS, but in order to support some of our devices, we have to ship some closed source .so files.
Is it within the site terms to do this?

One question I have is whether there are redistribution restrictions of said binaries -- IOW, if it would be okay for us to have them on Launchpad at all?

Well, there is a license that goes along with the file(s). The user is supposed to agree to the terms in order to download and/or install the files. I will have to look at the text of the license to fully answer your question, however, IANAL so it will not be a definitive answer.

I'd like to discuss this with you further. I'm sending you an email asking for more information.
