There is no description/guide. The code was opened so that the community could audit and contribute to the site. The scripts used by launchpad developers sets up of a development instance. The configuration to run a production instance was not released.

The art/images/branding in the source tree is free to use to develop launchpad.net. You must replace all the art to run an instance for another purpose.

Thanks Curtis Hovey, that solved my question.

I still have some questions about this. According to Mark Shuttleworth all the code that runs launchpad and the build tools is open. Why can we not create a 'production' version of Launchpad if that is the case? I understand that there may not be documentation, but surely since launchpad is sbuild and friends, we should be able to duplicate it?

Hi Jeremiah,

Yes, all the code for Launchpad is Open Source, and if you ask in #launchpad-dev you will find other users who have created and run private instances of the site. From the FAQ:

    https://answers.edge.launchpad.net/launchpad/+faq/920

Yes, you can run Launchpad on your own server, but keep the following things in mind:

As per https://dev.launchpad.net/LaunchpadLicense, please replace the images and icons with your own.

Also, Launchpad's production configuration information and some configuration-specific admin scripts are not part of the Launchpad code base; you'd have to reinvent those in a way appropriate for your setup.

Hope this helps,

Maris

Thank you Maris, this helps clear things up.
