How do I completely remove a deleted PPA so I can recreate it?

Asked by Kenny Strawn

I was wondering if it's possible to completely remove a deleted PPA's description so that the deleted PPA can be resurrected (e.g. to re-register the deleted PPA). Currently, trying to re-create the deleted PPA in question returns an error.

When will this be possible its rather silly!

Can there be a clearer warning about this before you delete the ppa, its very easy for a newcomers to make this mistake.

Giles

The current message is simply:

"Deleting a PPA will destroy all of its packages, files and the repository area.
This deletion is PERMANENT and cannot be undone.
Are you sure ?"

Prehaps it could be:

"Deleting a PPA will destroy all of its packages, files and the repository area.
The Name of the PPA will not be removed from the system and so the Name
of the Deleted PPA CANNOT BE USED AGAIN.
This deletion is PERMANENT and cannot be undone.
Are you sure ?"

Damn, today I stepped into this trap. How to get out? Is there no way to completely delete a PPA so I can reuse the name again?

You can simply re-enable a deleted PPA by going to the url

https://launchpad.net/~<username>/+archive/<ppaname>/+edit

Then simply check the "enabled" and "publish" checkboxes.

It does seem to however leave the re-enabled PPA in a state where the expected links

    * Change details
    * Edit PPA dependencies
    * Delete PPA

Are missing from the side panel, you can still access the urls that these links would point to though.
