Request: Delete my empty disabled PPA please

Asked by Sergio Zanchetta

I accidentally deleted my ppa from launchpad.
https://edge.launchpad.net/~primes2h/+archive/ppa

In fact It was opened a long time ago but I didn't use it, I have never published anything to it.
Yesterday I was doing some tests and I did that stupid thing, thinking
I would have been able to recreate it with the same name.

According to what it's written in the faq [1], it should be possible to ask for it to be deleted.

Could someone help me please?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Sergio,

Yes, as you've found, it is possible to delete PPAs now (and you get a nice big warning when you do so ;) ). Currently this deletes the repository, but leaves the historical records in the database, which means you *can't* currently create a new one with the same name. In the future, we will also be deleting all the related database records, but until then you'll need to create a new PPA.

(I think you were told on IRC that an administrator can potentially destroy the record of your old one, and while this is true, it's generally not done as it requires manual editing of the database).

Hi Michael, thanks for your quick response.

"(I think you were told on IRC that an administrator can potentially destroy the record of your old one, and while this is true, it's generally not done as it requires manual editing of the database)."

Exactly, and this is what I would like to be done please as my ppa was empty.
It has been done in the past as a consequence of this request for example:
https://answers.edge.launchpad.net/soyuz/+question/75570

Could you do it for my ppa please?

Thanks in advance.

I cannot, and AFAIK those with the powers to do so have stated a while
back that they no longer do this as a policy (due to the risks).

Given that the ppa that you deleted wasn't used by anyone, what is the
problem with a new PPA? (Note: you can give it the same display name
as the previous one, it is only the ppa's url-name that you can't
re-use yet).

Sorry.

No problem, I think I'll create a new one, waiting for the launchpad feature that allows me to completely delete the old one.
Thanks anyway for your help.
