Remove "Answers" option from menu

Asked by kiwi

Is there a way to remove the "Answers" option from the top menu on our project? We find it confuses our users, as we have a separate Forum where all questions are managed, We have have un-ticked the box that says "People can ask questions in Launchpad Answers" which removed the list of existing questions from the Overview page, but users still use Answers and can add new ones there. They then stay there, unanswered, because none of our team ever look at them there.

Hi kiwi,

Unlike bugs/translations, Answers do continue to appear functional even when you've un-ticked the checkbox. I do remember this being discussed once before (Curtis?), but I don't remember what the outcome was (nor can I find an FAQ or bug, but I could be searching with the wrong terms).

For the moment (until someone from registry can provide more info on the previous discussion), I'd recommend:

1) Adding one question with a title that directs people to your own forum, so that this will always be displayed when people click on the "Answers" tab, and
2) Setting yourself (or a team) as the answers contact, just so you can redirect people who still go ahead and ask questions.

Thanks Michael, I appreciate the response. For now I have taken your advice, but hopefully something better will be found. I couldn't find any other reference to this issue either, hence my question.

Of course, if Launchpad had a full Forum option, then perhaps we wouldn't have the problem anyway??? We'd much rather keep everything under one roof.

Answers cannot be disabled because projects re shares by many communities. Another communitiy can use answers even if your community does not.

We are discussing changes to will disable answers, bugs, blueprints, and translations until a community enables it. We cannot commit to doing this work at this time because answers and blueprints are maintained by the community.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask kiwi for more information if necessary.
