Can I translate a book? (open source, naturally)

Asked by Markon

Hi, I would make possible the translation of Python Tutorial (open source, naturally) on Launchpad.
Some people said me that it's possible, so I've tried to register this project, (after I've contacted the autor of this https://launchpad.net/python-tutorial ) but I 've not understood how i can upload this project (to translate).
Python tutorials are these: http://docs.python.org/tut/
The license is the same used by Python: http://docs.python.org/tut/node17.html

Can you help me ?

Thank you

At the moment, we only support translating PO and XPI files. If you can transform those documents to PO files (eg. converting from LaTeX to DocBook, then using xml2po [from gnome-doc-utils] to extract PO files), then it should be possible to use Launchpad Translations to manage those translations. xml2po would be able to get DocBook back from translated PO files, but I am not sure if you'd be able to convert DocBook back to LaTeX (though, that might not be needed in the first place).

Also, xml2po should be able to work with XHTML files ("xml2po -m xhtml" command line option), but that has not been extensively tested.
