Ubuntu SE super project

Asked by Garry Parker

Hi,

I'd like the following project to be converted into a super project (if this is possible, if not, could you create a new project with the same name?):

https://launchpad.net/satanic

I'd like the following to be added as sub-projects (if I can do this once the super-project exists then let me know and I'll add the myself):

https://launchpad.net/satanic-wallpapers
https://launchpad.net/satanic-gdm-themes
https://launchpad.net/satanic-kde-themes
https://launchpad.net/usplash-theme-satanic

By the way - I've had trouble finding information regarding super-projects. I hope that this is the correct way to go about things. Is there a way I could create one myself?

Thanks for your help,
Garry

I'd be happy to do that, as ironic as that may sound coming from someone
called Christian <wink>. Do note, however, that there are some
conditions that need to be met to allow me to create a project group:

    - First, the project needs to be active and in use by a number of
      people.

    - Second, it can't violate any policies, and the use of the word
"Edition" there violates Ubuntu policies. I queried on the use of
the Ubuntu SE name and here's the response:

Basic problem is that "edition" is a special word, and calling
something the "Ubuntu XXX Edition" implies that it is part of
the Ubuntu project. If it was a customised distro, then "remix"
is probably a better word. If it's just a theme it could be
something like "Satanic Kit for Ubuntu" though, or "Satanic
        Theme for Ubuntu".

If you can amend that on your public communications I'll proceed. It's
ideal if I can rename the existing "satanic" project to be useful to
another project you will be registering under this project group -- are
you planning on registering any others?

Hi Christian,

The project is active and used by a large number of people - you just need to search on Google or YouTube, or just look at the comments on our site to see that.

Regarding the naming, we just followed the convention set by Ubuntu Christian Edition, which incidentally was approved by Ubuntu. Also, the policies regarding the trademark weren't clarified until after we'd named the project. It's a bit unfair to expect projects to retrospectively change their names after policy changes.

Having said that, I understand where you're coming from and if you really insist that we change our name, then I'll update it to Ubuntu Satanic Theme until I can think of something better!

Can you please rename the existing "satanic" project to "satanic-screensaver"? Thanks.

Garry.

Thanks, confirmed.

I asked into this; turns out that UCE has also been contacted about the
same issue. I agree it's slightly unfortunate to request retroactive
changes in names, but in this case, because Ubuntu management has
requested it from us, I'd particularly appreciate it.

That'd be perfect.

Thanks for that -- done. And

    https://launchpad.net/satanic

Is created, and assigned to you. What's left to do:

    - Move the existing projects over to this project group
    - Fix the branding -- I didn't do that part!

Thanks.

Hi Christian,

OK, I've fixed the branding and moved the projects to be part of the group.

Thanks for all your help!
