3-clicks away from seeing the project's code

Asked by Tarek Ziadé

Hello,

I was using Launchpad this morning to browse some project and I found it quite hard to reach the source code tree.

The "branches" tab is obvious, but when I am on that page, it takes an effort to find out that we need to click on a repository in order to get to the file browser. I have seen some projects that had a shortcut to the file browser from the overview page, but still, it's hidden in the mass of information the overview page has.

I was wondering if one possible enhancement could be to display a "default' branch file browser right in the "branches" tab, and maybe rename that tab "code" to make it cristal clear. Then give the ability to browse other branches if needed.

The fact is that from a developer PoV, you don't discover a project by its branches. You discover a project using these steps:

1/ read the overview page to know what the project does
2/ take a rapid look at its code

My 2 cents :)

It has been suggested that we have a more prominent link on the project overview page to get to the code. I'm happy to have this, it is just a matter of where and what it will look like.

I'm pretty sure we have a bug for this somewhere.

I'll try to take more of a look next week post roll-out rush.

Can you help with this problem?
