link to ask questions gone!

Asked by Tom

Hi :)

In Launchpad when you answer someone's question there is a superb link to make it easy to ask a question yourself.
"
Got a question of your own?
For best results, ask your own question separately.
"

However, when you ask a question that link is not there! This could explain why so many people go on to ask a lot of questions all in one thread. Please can someone post this as a bug-report?

Regards from
Tom :)

Hi :)

To reproduce this on you own system.
1. Ask a question
2. Look at the bottom of the thread.

When we are just answering questions we see the link at the bottom but the people asking the questions don't get that link.

I might be missing something about how Launchpad works but,

You see if you,
1. Log into Launchpad and
2. Check one on your questions

You will not see "Got a question of your own" because this is your own question!

If you,
1. Log into Launchpad and
2. Check someone else's question

You will not see "Got a question of your own" because this is not your question and the Launchpad developers have assumed that you (the question reader) can ask your own separate question.

Simply, if you are reading your own question, you don't need to ask another one.

Oh sorry, and this is should be in the Launchpad question area not Ubuntu since Ubuntu has no control of how the Launchpad website is designed. But I don't know how to change it, so if a Launchpad moderator is reading this, can you move it?

@ Steve
I deliberately posted it in the Ubuntu area because it is most likely to get attention in here. To file a question properly just look up at the top right-hand corner of the thread and click on "Edit Question". Then scroll to the bottom to edit the weird little boxes at the bottom.

@ Sam
Lol, that does make sense except that often people do have more than one question or something else occurs to them halfway through a thread. Currently Launchpad makes it difficult for them to post a new question and so they just add it straight into the existing thread about something completely different.

This makes our "Solved Answers" database even more difficult for people to use so we get a lot of questions about almost identically the same thing.

Thanks for trying to help with this! :)
Many regards from
Tom :)

In this case Tom is someone else and I definetely see "Got a question of your own", meant as an invitation to use the link below.
Got a question of your own? ## Invitation. Answer: yes, I_have_my_own_question
For best results, [link:ask your own question separately.] ## Ok, I'll do it, because it differs from topic.

Which doesn't answer the issue that Tom tried to point at.
User A submits a question and wants to submit another one about a different issue. No way to do this on the current page. User needs to go back to topic (https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu) to proceed from there. (top right-hand corner "Ask a question")

So I guess this isn't enough intuitive?
Then why not put it back at the top?
Or why not put this on a prominent place?
Before asking a question, please read this. Thank you. ## or something like that

Disagree, I never had to wait long for an answer on 'launchpad_itself'. Beside, emotion violates rationality, so what if it takes a while, reflecting over/underestimating.
https://answers.launchpad.net/launchpad
Beside, the issue doesn't concern Ubuntu, it concerns usability of launchpad itself.

Sam, you gave me swift feedback about the question and that was excellent. I didn't really know how to explain myself well & you highlighted the confusing area & gave a better way of asking the question. I expect us to get caught up in a whirlwind of questions any day now but until then it's good to ask a few odd ones of our own i think :)

Moving it to the Launchpad area rather than Ubuntu was well timed too.

Many thanks and regards to Steve & Sam from

Hi again :)

I think the best way to solve this would be to use existing systems but just carry it across to the people asking the questions as well as the people answering. Alternatively adding another button at the bottom might make sense but could be a little confusing

I filed and link a bug about the link being easily missed. Follow-up converstation should go there.

Ooops, thanks Francis.

I am going to attack a couple of screen-shots to show what i mean. I wasn't expecting this to be actioned first time i raised the point otherwise i might have left it until the developers were a little less busy. Hmmm, now that i think about it there would be great benefit to getting this sorted before the huge influx of questions starts.

Thanks and regards from
