Missing appindicator on Fedora

Asked by Johannes Goller

I'd like to build and use lament on Fedora. I realise you didn't mean it to be used on Fedora, but it would obviously be nice if it could be.

Building it fails due to the missing 'appindicator' package. Do you happen to have an idea where to get the source code for that? Or would it even be possible to remove lament's dependency on this package?

Dear Johannes,

I would add code for a normal gnome environment, for which I think GtkStatusIcon would be the best to use.
You could implement the appindicator code using the GtkStatusIcon and would separate the differences between implementation with #ifdef etc.

Do you think you can manage that?

Best regards,
Hans Oesterholt.

The lament code has been updated to work with the normal GtkStatusIcon.
It also works on OSX now.

You should download the latest code with bazaar and compile it with the USE_GTKSTATUSICON option.

Thanks and sorry I couldn't get back earlier.

I am able to build the package using the USE_GTKSTATUSICON option. Thanks for that.

I can start it now by running 'lament-bin'. It brings up an input box, but I am unsure what to enter. If I enter something, it continues and produces a lot of output on the command line, but does not show any further window.

Is that because I still need to code something to actually make it work with the Gtk status icon (in that case I will go and look at the code to understand this better), or is this a bug?

You need to enter your yammer network there, e.g. mycompany.eu
