Upgradeing to KDE 4.7 hangs an plasma-widgets-addons

Asked by lnxusr

Following the directions on http://www.kubuntu.org/news/kde-4.7 to upgrade from 4.6.5, everything goes peachy up until the preparing stage for plasma-widgets-addons where it hangs at what looks like about 75% of that task. It's been stuck there for about 45 minutes, so I know it's pretty well hung up. KDEs Software Updates app has no way to see what's going on. No terminal, no error message/dialog, nothing.

My question is, is it OK to kill the process and start again? The downloading is done, and it's in the 'Preparing' stage. If I kill the process will my system be in a state where I cannot restart Software Updates, or possibly use Synaptic to continue? Since I don't see any other reports of this, I'm not sure I should report it as a bug or not. I'd rather try again first to see if it happens again, then report it if so.

OK, went ahead and closed the updating window but didn't kill the Software Update app. After refreshing the package list, there was only one package listed as needing updateing. I marked that and clicked apply and everything went ahead and updated as it should've in the first place. I'm now running KDE 4.7.
