Password problem

Asked by Antony Whittington

Hello
I have set a password for my 5 contact accounts and tested it at the time and all worked well but when I launched Kontakter another day, the password is not recognised. I have used all my usual passwords to no avail. Is there a known problem with passwords? I am only using a local setting, not the server. I am able to create a new account with no problem but my other 5 accounts, I just cannot get passed the password prompt.

Hi Antony,

there are no known bugs related to password management.

I'll do some tests...

Thanks for your feedback!

Hi Giorgio

Thanks for the prompt reply. I understand you when you say there are no known bugs but I am wondering if there is a way around the password so I can get at my contacts some of which are very important. I would be grateful for any help whatsoever.

Yes there is a way to recover your contacts!

First you need to tell me what operating system you are using... SO I tell you the procedure.

In general, you can copy the database file from the folder where kontakter saves the settings etc...

On windows it is in AppData folder (hidden folder in the home), on other system it is in the ~/.kontakter/ folder.

Then you can import the database in kontakter with a new account which has no password...

you described below. Many thanks for your help, I am very grateful.
