Automatic transaction numbering

The next check number is always inserted to the "Number" box and since I have mostly debit transactions I always have to remember to delete them, and if I dont, it messes up my next check number. Can I turn this off?

You can select whether you want to show the check number, and whether it should autoincrement. All that is configure in the Ledger section of the Configure KMyMoney... option.
