Instalation on systems with little memory

Asked by Flavius on 2007-05-07

Is it possible to install on a system with only 128MB?

Ubuntu recommends the alternative CD for systems with less then 192 MB, but I haven't seen such an option for Kiwi Linux.

Kiwi has the same requirements as the Ubuntu liveCD. That means 256M to run acceptably well, and more than 300 to be installable via the liveCD installer.
We do not have an alternate CD which can install with less RAM, but the installed system still won;t run too well with less that 256M
For a 128M system Xubuntu alternate is the best option, but that is both less friendly to install and to use.

After giving Ubuntu a try and getting a barely usable system, I switched to Xubuntu, as you recommended, and I was amazed at how snappy and responsive the system has become.

I was looking forward to Kiwi, hoping to find improved support for the Romania language, but I think that Xubuntu will do as well.

A Xubuntu based Kiwi flavour is planned but not very clear yet when it will be ready. It makes sense to have it, but in order for it to be easy t oinstall it needs to be a liveCD as well, and that can not install with only 128M even if it will run after installed.
