How do I use Kino?

Asked by Jeff Felberbaum

So far I haven't been able to get KIno to capture and save
the dv footage I have on my camera. I get a visual of the
tape playing in capture mode, although there is a message at
the bottom of the screen which says:

"No AV/C compliant cam connected or not switched on?"

...and I can even save something which only ends up looking
like a still frame when I try to play it back.

It would be nice to get it to capture, save, and playback my tapes,
but also would be interested in a users guide if there is one.
I'm going to need to edit, too!

Thx...

try doing:

sudo chmod 777 /dev/raw1394

sometimes capturing doesn't work because you don't have access to the device

also, you can try using:

dvgrab --autosplit --timestamp

that will automatically capture all the video on your tape, splitting it by time code, and naming the files according to their timestamps...

Can you help with this problem?
