Trying to use this on a old Macbook

Asked by Shamar Daniel

Hi,

I am trying to find an old version of Kicad that'll run on my 2010 Macbook that is in incredible condition. Due to the old 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor(and the fact that it's almost a decade old), it can't use current software. So, this is one of the few downloads of an older Kicad I could source. Now I've downloaded the main file and it gave me a folder full of the components and other internal code groups. I went in the folder to try and find the application itself, thinking that's how you open Kicad. Though, I wasn't successful so.... How do I open it? Do I a driver? Is this even Mac compatible? Because, I clearly have no idea.

                       Thanks for your time!

You should be using KiCad 5.1.4

I tried this already. But, my Mac says it's incompatible with this current version. I looked at the system requirements and it needs at minimum OS 10.12 to work. I also looked for any available system updates for the my Mac and there wasn't any.

Oops. That's right, we did need to bump that version. 5.0.2 ( the version immediately prior) should work with 10.11

Is there a source I could download for the 5.0.2 version? I can’t really find one.
