Questions about KiCad

Asked by Jon Smedley on 2019-08-13

Good day. We are doing some research on EDAs and I have two very specific questions about your software.

1) Is it currently certified to be used on DOD networks? Specifically US Air Force
2) Can it operate in an isolated cloud environment. We help the military with their "secure" cloud. Will you software work here. We have both AZURE and AWS environments.

1) On its own, no. Please see [1] for specific guidance on IA certification for open source software on DoD networks. This requires support contracts with specific vendors.

2) Yes. KiCad operates well using AWS over the x2go client protocol (NX3). In theory, it will also operate on AZURE over the MS RDP but I haven't seen a specific implementation of this. The client will operate using "Fallback" mode and not utilize the OpenGL acceleration.
