PCBnew: minor netlist change effects all components?

Asked by Barry Buelow

I had a 4layer layout nearly done. The designers then decided to have a partial separate ground. Some components went from GND to GNDD. Also added a Net-tie. Annotated, keeping existing Ref Designators. In PCBNew, reading the Netlist causes all components to be removed from the layout like they are totally new, when ONLY the Net-tie was new.

What triggers PCBNew to Del existing valid components and re-add them when it is unnecessary?

Sorry for the question here, but I wanted to ask devs this and to consider someway to prevent this action. Possibly a popup to ask "Retain existing placements?" or something.

I did post on the forum.
Thanks

Hi Barry-

In general, there are two methods of re-associating: timestamp and reference designation. Neither of these should have caused your netlist to be out of sync with your board. Unless there were two boards or two schematics and you switched between these.

If you provide your KiCad version information in a bug report, we can try to recreate the issue when importing the netlist.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Barry Buelow for more information if necessary.
