How to Navigate Selection History in Pcbnew

Asked by Yona Appletree

I frequently want to return to a previous selection in Pcbnew. Often, the selection is non-trivial, and time consuming to get back to.

One case where this happens often is when I go to move a component and then cancel it. For some reason, this deselects everything (!) and I have to painstakingly reselect things.

Another use case is to work around the fact that there isn't group support in Pcbnew. I select some resistors, move them a little, then select somecapacitors, move them, then I want to move the resistors again. This require clicking every single resistor again and dealing with any selection conflicts. Really tedious stuff.

Most IDEs for software support the idea of a navigation history. I'm curious if there is any similar concept in Pcbnew or if it has been considered?

If not, is it something possible with the scripting system? Seems like would be fairly straight-forward to implement and immensely useful.

This feature doesn't exist but would be helpful. I've linked a bug report.

Can you help with this problem?
