KiCAD 5 for Debian

Asked by Chris Silva

When can we expect a final release of K5? 4.0.7 is useless for me. I need to make use of the new features that surround Eagle.
I don't have the luxury when it comes to time and compiling the source with the hopes it will work now. Additionally, not knowing if I import my Eagle work into a nightly, that by the time v5 is out, the imports may or may not work.

Thanks for the answer.

Possibly in the 3rd or 4th quarter of 2018. Kicad 5 RC2 is expected on June 28. See the milestones here: https://launchpad.net/kicad/5.0

I'm not sure where these dates came from but I did not set them. We are within a week or two of releasing rc2 barring anything unexpected which will be the UI string freeze release. From there, it's a matter of getting the documentation and translations completed and the packaging ready for the stable release. My goal is to have v5 released before the end of May at the latest.
