feature request: opt in for copying extra fields when copying a part in a schematic

Asked by simski

consider the following scenario:

you make a schematic and fill in the extra fields for your bom (for example with Boms-away) then alter the schematic by copying a resistor, giving it a new value. the extra fields will still resemble the original value and generate a error in your bom.

idea: have a opt-in mechanism when copying a part, preferably as a global setting, so you are not bothered with the question at every copy you make from a part. Making the default the "do not copy extra fields".

other idea: check if there a are extra fields filled when you change a value and ask the question then, having the global default set to "Do copy the extra fields"

You had it correct the first time. Bug reports are the correct place to request new features.

Why do copied parts generate errors in BOM? The only field that needs to be unique is the reference, but after a copy operation you need to annotate symbols, so the copied symbols will get unique references.

normally they dont, but if you change the value of a copied part, the bom info is invalid. where is the BOM info located in your projects? in mine, it is in the schematic file.

Can you help with this problem?
