Slow "Read Current Netlist" with Pcbnew

I've been experimenting with the newer version (BZR 5960) of Kicad because I would like to take advantage of the push-and-route capability. Kicad is working but reading netlists into Pcbnew is taking more than 10 minutes. It works if I wait long enough. I've pointed the library manager to local libraries, not the online Github. I would appreciate any suggestions on improving/fixing this.

I'm a new user to Linux and Kicad so it may be a configuration issue. I've already did a google search and didn't see any similar problems with suggested solutions. I also have the stable version installed and with a similar circuit the netlist reads in a couple seconds.
