Stable release ...

Asked by Reimar

On the website at "Installing KiCad" can be read:

Old stable is available from ... (don't use for new designs).

But, what is the actual "stable version"? Which release is recommended for new designs? I know, KiCad is under development and that is good, but upgrading a nightly snapshot every morning could not be the destination for productive work.

Kind regards,
Reimar

Hi Reimar,

I recommend sticking to a single revision of KiCad, unless you found a bug that prevents you from further work, or you would like to try out new features. On the other hand, users using the freshest builds are very welcome as they contribute to software quality by testing and reporting bugs.

We have reached the feature freeze stage, so now developers are focused on fixing bugs and improving overall user experience. We will surely notify everyone when the stable release is ready, but I think it will not happen before June this year.

Regards,
Orson
