Kicad 2015

Asked by LAMBERT

Hello,

To this day I use the version of 07.07.2013 (BZR4022) KiCad. I download the latest version of either KiCad 2015.01.07 release (BZR5376). I had great difficulty in downloading; the firewall on my PC Win08.1 regularly blocked the download.

Once this version installed on my PC, I have difficulty in opening the PCB files of different folders created under older versions of KiCad. The old file Eeschema can be opened after a reformatting of them.

When the version of KiCad download on the website of "iut-tice.ujf-Grenoble.fr" will -t- it evolved. Currently the version available is Version 7.7.2013 (BZR4022).

Good day and good weekend.

Hi Nick,
As you advise me, I download BZR5376 version 7.1.2015. Is this compatible version Win 8.1 I am using?

My files created with the previous version (BZR4022), do not open properly with BZR5376 release. Pcbnew does not open and Eeschema has errors. BZR5376 Can open old files?

Es he expected a change in the version that is just upload to the site of "iut-tice.ujf-Grenoble.fr"

Thank you in advance for your answers.

I'm not sure why you cannot open the schematics. There have been no changes to the schematic file format for quite some time. What errors are you seeing when you load the schematic?

If your board files contain translated non-copper layer names, then it's possible that they will not open. You may have to manually edit them to get them to load properly. You should include the error message that Pcbnew reported when you tried to open the .brd file. There were some significant changes to the board and footprint (module) library file formats as well as the footprint library management from the previous stable version to the version you are using. Make sure you read the documentation to properly configure your footprint libraries.

The stable version you downloaded from iut-tice.ujf-Grenoble.fr is no longer supported. You might want to try one of the nightly builds from the download section of the official KiCad website at www.kicad-pcb.org.

The answers to the problems you are seeing have likely been answered on the kicad users group at yahoo or the kicad forum at https://forum.kicad.info/. User related questions should always be posted there first.

Good Evening,

For the 1st response when opening the old version with the new schemes version of KiCad, the connections between components are shifted, the layout is incorecte. I have to reposition the components of schemes to have the right connections between them. Wholesale remake the scheme.

For the 2nd answer, actually the error message tells me that the layers are not recognized. That means I'll have to reconfigure all my old files?

In the screen during the successive update KiCad, opening old files was done without issues regarding this.

The current version available on the website of "iut-tice.ujf-grenoble.fr" she will change, for the time is always 7/7/2013 release.

Thank you in advance for your answers, good afternoon.

It is because the bundled schematic library has been update. Rember to always backup everything you use to keep it for the future.

Nick Good evening,

Thank you for the information. This new version of KiCad is more complex than the last.

Do not worry I backup my files automatically.

For the moment I downloaded the new version of KiCad on another PC to make me safe hand to all the files and release KiCad on my main PC.

Eeschema on, I started updating a file already created. I have some question marks.

Regarding Pcnew for now I have not yet understood how it works. I have read in detail the new tutorial.

Good evening.

This means that there are components missing from your new schematic
libraries that were in you old schematic libraries. Here's a simple
trick assuming you haven't saved the schematic with the broken library
links yet. Copy your library cache file project-name-cache.lib to a new
file name in you project folder such as project.lib. Open the schematic
library configuration tool and insert your new library at the top of the
list of libraries. Now you will always have a copy of the old schematic
symbol libraries. This is a known problem that effects every version of
kicad up to and including the current development branch. There is a
plan to fix this after a new stable release.

Try setting the language to English and re-saving the board file using
the old stable version of Pcbnew. You should be able to open it with
the new version of Pcbnew with the English layer names.

Good evening,

I have not responded quickly because I was absent. I took the file KiCad 2015 to try to open my last file created with the Version 7.7.2013.

I am having issues regarding this.

I send you the files as attachments from my realization. Maybe it will be easier to tell me how to use my old files with the 2015 release.

I'll be away from 26/04 to 09/05 without being able to connect.

Good night.

In my response, I sent the files that I created with Kicad of 07.07.2013, that could see Wayne or the problem. At first he did not receive the files. Is there a way to send you files easily?
