Converting Eagle .brd file to KiCad

I am using KiCad testing 2014.10.27 and am trying to read in an Eagle .brd file in Pcbnew. The Eagle file is XML. I have looked for the procedure to use Plugins but I don't see a Menu File -> Open. from within Pcbnew.

How do I read in an Eagle .brd file?

You have to run Pcbnew as a stand alone application to use the open board feature. Just select the eagle board type and open the file then save it which will save the board to the KiCad file format. When Pcbnew is launch by KiCad as part of a project, opening a different board is outside the context of the project so the open menu entry (as well as a few others that have no meaning when working on a project) is disabled.
