No new release in 18 months

Asked by Rick Jenkins

There appears to have been no new release of a "stable" version of Kicad in 18 months. Are further stable releases planned, or should I depend on the latest snapshots?

We are currently in the process of working towards a stable release. I'm hoping we can have something ready by late in the first quarter or early in the second quarter of next year. If you want to take advantage of the latest features such as push and shove routing, 64 total board layers with 32 copper layers, and opengl/cairo rendering in Pcbnew, then you should use the latest snapshots. Actually, things are fairly stable right now and it's always nice to have some additional testing. We are working hard to provide nightly builds for Linux, OSX, and windows but we are not quite there yet. Hopefully soon. Thank you for your interest in KiCad.
