KICAD tutorial Part 1 - Creating Project
Great Tutorial why would get proect1.kicad_pcb instead of proect1.brd when saving the board to the project ?
I downloaded from the site below and the full windows version

The reason for the new file name extension is that the tutorial you used was created before the new PCB file format was put in place which was over a year ago. Pcbnew will convert all legacy files (the file with the .brd extension) to the new file format when you save it. Apparently the tutorial you used was never updated to reflect the changes in Pcbnew.
