tracks do not connect to pads

Asked by Ernie Hatt

Hi, I am new to Kicad, and I find the the tracks are not connecting to the pads. I I start the track on the pad, the only thing that happens is it will change directions, but will not allow me to make any changes of direction, and if I double click it deletes it. If I start and finish just short of the pads, then it all works as expected, so how can I make the connections. Ernie

If the pad does not have a connection to the track you are editing, then Pcbnew will not connect the track to the pad. If the automatic track delete setting is on (which it is by default), then the unconnected tracks are automatically deleted. You can confirm pad connections by showing the rats nest and verifying the pad actually has a connection. If it doesn't, fix the schematic and regenerate the net list. If there is a connection, it is possible that the combination of track width and clearance are violating spacing requirements preventing you from connecting the track to the pad. This is visible when routing the track by observing the clearance outline drawn around the track and all pads. You can edit the track width and clearance by following the steps in section 8.3.2 in the Pcbnew documentation and/or set the global pad clearance by following the steps in section 8.3.3 of the Pcbnew documentation.
