no dock appearing in debian lenny - xfce

Asked by Friedrich Strohmaier

Hello,

I downloaded recent kdocker 4.4 and compiled it on debian lenny. Some tweaking later it compiled smothly.

Now I try to use it on xfce4. It aparently works as expected exept: no dock appears anywhere! Disappeared windows appear again, when kdocker is closed by sigterm.

Same behavior on xfce 4.4.2 and 4.6.1 from lenny-backports.

Are there any known Issues with xfce4?

It's working fine for me in Xubuntu 10.04. Do you have a system tray? I believe it's called xfce4-panel in XFCE. You can also try running xfce4-panel --restart after docking something to see if that forces it to appear.

Finally the problem was between screen and chair :o))

> Do you have a system tray?

Was the question leading to the answer.

In german translation they choose "Fläche für Benachrichtigungen" = "Area of Messages" which is missleading, to say it moderate.

I wiped it killing the second above Taskbar, which I don't like on my wide screen.

By the way:
compilation only runs smooth if the following packages, not mentioned in docu are installed:

i libqt4-dev - Qt 4 development files
i libxmu-dev - X11 miscellaneous utility library (develop
i libxpm-dev - X11 pixmap library (development headers)

which are not depencies of qmake - for whatever reason.

Thanks for Your attention.
